FEBRUARY

"February is peak calving season on the Serengeti's southern plains - thousands of wildebeest giving birth in a matter of weeks. It sounds chaotic but it's one of the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles I've ever witnessed"

WHERE TO GO IN FEBRUARY

Tanzania

February in the Serengeti is one of nature’s most tender and dramatic spectacles. The short grass plains of the south are alive with the wildebeest calving season, when up to half a million calves take their first unsteady steps within minutes of being born; one of the most extraordinary events in the natural world. The abundance draws predators from every direction, and the big cat activity at this time of year is nothing short of remarkable. Raw, emotional and endlessly compelling, the Serengeti in February is an experience that stays with you long after you return home.

WHERE TO GO IN FEBRUARY

Kenya

Samburu is one of Kenya’s most captivating and least visited reserves, and February is a wonderful time to experience it. Straddling the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya’s remote and rugged north, this ancient, sun-baked landscape feels a world away from the more familiar southern reserves, and is all the more special for it. Samburu is home to a remarkable collection of species found nowhere else in Kenya, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and the distinctive long-necked gerenuk. Dry, dramatic and quietly extraordinary: Samburu is the kind of place that reminds you just how vast and varied this continent really is.
