No two game drives are ever the same. One moment you are watching a herd of elephants at a waterhole, the next a pride of lions materialises from the long grass directly ahead – and it is that sense of glorious unpredictability that makes every drive feel like the first. A vehicle-based game drive remains the finest way to explore Africa’s great landscapes and wildlife, covering vast distances in comfort whilst placing you as close to the action as possible. Most camps offer two drives a day: heading out at dawn as the bush wakes up and again in the late afternoon as the light turns golden and the predators stir. Some private reserves extend the experience into the night, where a very different cast of characters emerges from the darkness. Whatever the hour, whatever the destination, a game drive in Africa never disappoints.
