There is something about sleeping under canvas in Africa. The sounds of the bush are all around you: the distant whoop of a hyena, the rumble of elephants moving through camp in the small hours, the extraordinary chorus of birdsong that greets the first light of dawn. Far from feeling exposed, most guests find it deeply peaceful. The best tented camps have genuine comfort: proper beds, warm showers, beautifully considered interiors — so that you fall asleep to the sounds of Africa without sacrificing a thing. It is, in our experience, the most honest and immersive way to experience the bush, and once you have spent a night under canvas in the wild, it is very hard to go back.
