One of the best times of year to trek for mountain gorillas, September sits in Rwanda’s dry season when the forest trails are at their most navigable, the skies are clear and the mountain landscape is revealed in all its dramatic, mist-edged beauty. Coming face to face with a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat is one of the most humbling and extraordinary wildlife encounters anywhere on the continent: intimate, unhurried and genuinely moving in a way that is very difficult to put into words.
